Loneliness is a reality for too many Business Leaders
Running a business is lonely, but Pabasso's peer advisory boards offer support, shared expertise, and action plans from 12 fellow leaders.
Reaching sales targets requires persistence. Follow-ups often take 6–18 attempts, so don't give up too soon—persistence gets results.
Most business leaders strive for more revenue, i.e., sales, and being The Perfect Pest was a conversation we had recently at one of our Pabasso business leaders' meetings.
How do you strike the right balance between trying to get in touch with a target customer and/or following up a lead without annoying your potential customer?
Sadly, there is no perfect answer, and it very much depends on your target audience and what products and services you are selling.
There is an assumption here that you do not have customers clamouring at your door for your products and services!
Let's make a further assumption that you know your Ideal Client/Customer Profile (ICP), and it is this cohort that you are targeting with your campaigns.
You might think that if someone responds to one of your marketing campaigns, they will be ready to receive a sales call. Not necessarily, it depends on a number of factors, including how busy they are.
So how often do you need to call them before you give up and move them from prospect to nurture/suspect?
Some say the right frequency of contacts with a prospect is to start with the idea of 8 contacts in 8 weeks. Other statistics suggest it takes an average of 6 to 8 calls to actually get through to your target. However, depending on seniority and industry, that number can range anywhere from 6 up to 18 attempts.
Gemini suggests a sales enquiry goes stale much faster than most people think—often within 5 to 48 hours for inbound web leads, and within 30 days for qualified B2B opportunities.
Sadly, there is no perfect answer to how to be the Perfect Pest, but one thing is for sure: it can take a lot longer than we think to engage with targets or enquirers.
What we do know is that Persistence Does It.
In the words of Calvin Coolidge (1872-1933), the 30th U.S. President:
Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence.
Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded Genius is almost a proverb.
Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts.
Persistence & determination alone are omnipotent.
So once you have identified your target client/customer or received an incoming enquiry to follow up, don’t give up too soon if you can’t get to them; be prepared to be persistent - because persistence does it.
